India defeat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to emerge out as the WorldCup winners and bringing the Australian reign to an end. It was an emotionalmoment as most of the Indian players could not control their emotions and tearsfell down from their eyes. This is the second time India has won the World Cuptitle, the previous one being in 1983. It is the second consecutive final defeatof Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. The startby Sri Lanka was a slow one, they lost their first wicket in the 7^thover, Tharanga was dismissed at 2. A lot depended on Dilshan, but he could notmake it a special innings as he was dismissed at 33 runs from 49 balls.

Captain Sangakara played a good innings but fell short of 2runs for his half century as Dhoni caught him behind the stumps on Yuvraj’sdelivery. Samaraweera, Kulusekra and Perrera made handy contributions to theirteam’s total. Jayawardhane played an crucial role in Indian innings, as he madecentury, and made the most of the batting powerplay. Jayawardhane made 103 runswith the help of 13 boundaries in just 88 balls.

Sri Lanka made 274 runs for the loss of six wickets. Zaheerand Yuvraj took 2 wickets and Harbhajan took 1 wicket.

Indian innings suffered a huge blow as Malinga got Sehwagleg before on zero on the very second ball. Soon after Tendulkar playing hislast match of the World cup, fell prey to Maling at 18. Gautam Gambhir andVirat Kohli tried to manage the crisis and they were successful to some extentbut Dilshan’s beautiful catch and ball dismissed Kohli on 35.

For a moment it looked match was getting out of Indian hands.But Captain Dhoni came up with a brave decision as he decided that he himselfwill come to the front.  He and Gambhirmade the biggest partnership in the World Cup final.

Gambhir played a majestical knock of 97 runs. Gambhir hadhit 9 fours, when Perera bowled him.

After Gambhir’s dismissal, Yuvraj Singh came on the crease.He supported Captain Dhoni very well and the duo steered India to a World Cupvictory.

Dhoni made 91 runs from 79 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixeswhereas Yuvraj made 21 runs from 24 deliveries with 2 fours.
